Japan: Day 7

First of all, I can't believe it's day seven already! This trip is flying by!

Second of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEBBIE!!

We're finding ourselves sleeping later and later as we get used to this timezone. That really stinks because we have to leave on Friday!  We were determined to catch the tram back to Hiroshima Station around 7am and we managed to make it on time...just to accidentally hop onto the wrong shinkansen, which was going to the correct station but had more stops so it really set us back. This was not good because my birthday present to Debbie was tickets to the Owl Cafe at 5pm in Akihabara and time was ticking.

We made it to our hotel in Fussa (where Jonah lives), checked in, dumped our stuff and jumped right back onto another train heading back into the heart of Tokyo. Unfortunately, amidst the craziness, somehow I lost my JR Pass...the JR Pass allows you unlimited rides on all transportation operated by Japan Rail. It was what we used to travel on the bullet trains and once lost can never be re-issued (which is really dumb because it's just a piece of paper). Anyway, it was only good for another day, and thank God we were done traveling the shinkansen, but the real problem was that we were already running late for our 5pm Owl Cafe appointment and now I had to go to the information kiosk to straighten out my pass issue so I could get through the ticket gates. Once we sorted that out we absolutely SPRINTED as fast as we could and by the grace of God they still let us in!

Once we were done playing with the owls (they were so cute!) We walked and shopped a bit before settling on a place to eat dinner.  We still hadn't tried Japanese sushi since we'd arrived so we found a place in Akihabara. I was actually surprised that 1) it was really good! I love sushi but hate fish so I was concerned that it would be too 'traditional' for my taste. And b) the Japanese seem to understand America's love of mayonnaise and avocado. Now, I've had loads of American sushi over the years but never had any with mayo until today. Not sure that I've experienced actual Japanese sushi, but this stuff was still pretty tasty.

Tomorrow is the only day that I had nothing particular planned for. We're in Jonah's town so maybe he can show us around! Maybe we'll even sleep in...

View from our new hotel 🙂 the view from our last hotel was the wall of the building next door. Huge improvement!!
